Okay, finished my first play through of Dragon Age Inquisition tonight. I had like, a gazillion side quests I didn't touch, there was at least one area I unlocked but never got around to visiting, but dammit I wanted to see the rest of the story so I went ahead and did the final story quest.

I had sorta half planned to go back after and do some more of the side quests, but... spoilersCollapse )

Yes, more babbling about Dragon Age Inquistion. Totally eating my brain this game is.

First before the babble, have a pic of my inquisitor:

He's an elf rogue archer who I kinda tried to make look as much like Stiles as I possibly could. (I, err, kinda named him Stiles too. *shifty eyes* )

Anyway behind the cut we go with the spoilery babbleCollapse )

I already have so many little fic ideas, and I'm sure by the time I finish the game, I'll have a lot more. Some with my inquisitor, some with Hawke and the old DA2 bunch. Some with both. God, this game is soooo good.

So had today off work and was going to spend just a few hours playing Dragon Age Inquisition and then go on and do other stuff.

Hahahahaha, yeah no. I think, all told I played for ten, ten and a half hours today? Not all at once, there was a several hour break in the middle there, but... yeah.

Maybe about an hour of that was me finally getting a handle on the crafting in the game and going through and making/upgrading armor and weapons for everybody. I have to say, there's something really satisfying about making some armor or weapon that kicks ass (or as much ass as they can kick at my level) instead of just finding or buying the same. Also, finally got my inquisitor out of the dragon armor, which while I appreciated the stats at the beginning, is not really a look I liked on him. I'm much happier with him in his chestnut brown scout armor, looks more like I want him to wear.

I'm happy to say that casual setting continues to make it so I can actually survive fights and move ahead in the story. Which, you have to understand, I really really suck at video games. Like really. Like I doubt I would've got through the first two Dragon Ages without using the immortal cheat in the dev console. I'm getting more proficient at fighting, but I still appreciate the added boost the casual setting gives me. I'm for the most part able to play so far like I played DA2, which is mostly just concentrating on my own characters attacks and leaving the party to the AI. I know a lot of people who play like the fights to be more challenging, and it's cool that the game can give that to them too, but I'm so very happy and grateful that they also considered players like me who have really bad reflexes and are more in it for the story.

And man what a story so far...Collapse )

Look, I actually managed to get another ep watched without months going by in between! (Which is even more surprising considering how much Dragon Age Inquisition is trying to eat up all my free time. The game is sooo good. But that's for another post.)

So having had Dragon Age: Inquistion for 24 hours now, I think I can safely say this game is going to give me more than my money's worth.

I'm playing on PS4 instead of PC because I'm fairly certain that my computer would have hacked up a hairball if I tried to make it play it, and I got a PS4 for my birthday a couple of months ago so...

What that means is that the game looks absolutely amazing – and I'm getting to see it in a far larger picture than I'm used to seeing DA games. It also means that the learning curve on the controls is basically me starting from point zero, but I am slowly getting the hang of it. (controlling the movement with one joy stick and the camera with the other is starting to become second nature finally after about seven hours of play, though I have yet to actually hit the right button first time when trying to get into the screen where you can access your character record, inventory, etc.

The main downside is that I'm used to playing DA games, and, really, most video games, on my laptop and so am used to having the screen like Right There within arm's reach of my face. Which the comfortable chair is across the room from the tv, which is fine for watching shows, but maybe not so much for playing video games, though I did spend about half my play time sitting back in it. The other half was spent sitting in a very uncomfortable straight backed chair placed much closer to the screen. The font on the text that comes up on the screen is small enough that it's a struggle to read it from my usual seat so if there's a lot of things to read (ie the prologue where it's telling you what control does what), I need to sit up closer no matter how uncomfortable the chair is.

But I'm adapting and I'm sure I'll figure out some kind of solution to that eventually.

As for the actual game itself...Collapse )

So yes I am continuing with my rewatch of Teen Wolf from the beginning. Just, obviously, not on any sort of schedule considering it's been over a month since I watched the first ep. I got distracted by first having to catch up with the second season of Arrow to be ready to watch s3 when it started, and then just generally distracted by new tv. I figured though I'm not doing this to any time limit so I'm just going to do one of these whenever I get the urge and have the time. Like now.

I've watched Supernatural from the very beginning -- watching every episode from 1.02 on either live or the same night it aired. It was my main fandom focus for easily 7 or 8 years and while my interest has waned from the obsessive levels it was at its height, I do still watch every week (and have found s10 so far surprisingly enjoyable with so far none of the things that have made me back off from the show).

The show's been at its best (Monster at the End of the Book, French Mistake, Changing Channels) and at its worst (Season 7, Time for a Wedding omg how I hated that episode) when it's done meta eps and while it seemed appropriate that the 200th ep would be another meta ep, I couldn't help but feel leery, especially since when they've got it wrong in the past it significantly lowered my enjoyment of the show as a whole.

But I tuned into the 200th ep tonight and hoped for the best...Collapse )

So my TWfallharvest gift was revealed today and I cannot tell you how much I love it.

It's a Scott/Stiles (or Scott & Stiles, either interpretation works) vid that does such a wonderful joyous summing up of their relationship. I can't help but watch it with a ginormous grin on my face, it's so perfect. This is the kind of thing I can point to as an answer about why I love these characters and their relationship.

So go, watch it, if you have any affection at all for Scott and Stiles and their friendship. You won't be sorry.

(Also how do I not have a Scott and Stiles icon? This needs rectifying)

So I've been contemplating for awhile now doing a rewatch of Teen Wolf from the start and doing write ups on each episode as I do so. Mostly because I binge watched most of the series and so didn't do any write ups at the time, but also so I can rewatch and see how my opinions may have changed now that I know these characters better and in light of where they are at the end of season four.

It should be interesting; most episodes from the first two seasons I've only seen twice – once when I started watching the show on Netflix and then again when I got hooked and bought the dvds. I really got into the show between 3a and 3b and the things that finally pulled me in aren't necessarily the same things that pulled a majority of the fandom base (at least on tumblr) in. i.e., I wasn't immediately smitten and bowled over by the possibilities of Stiles/Derek. I loved both of those characters from the start, especially Stiles, but that wasn't a pairing that really jumped out and smacked me in the face from watching the show. (Of course, you stick even a toe in the fandom and you will get smacked in the face with Sterek whether you want to be or not. Hell, I was pretty much being smacked in the face with Sterek even before I was in the fandom just by general cross fandom pollination.)

I don't know if I really shipped any one pairing my first binge watch through, tbh. I adored Scott and Stiles' relationship even then, but it didn't really tip over into shipping when I watched.

Probably because Scott/Allison was such a huge part of the show and were so very extremely cute together. I didn't really start shipping Scott/Stiles until S3b, which y'know if you can watch that season and not ship those two at least a little, you're watching a different show than I am.

It's going to be interesting going back and rewatching now that I am very much on the Scott/Stiles bandwagon, to see if I'm going to end up looking at things differently. And also to see what things leap out now as having more significance due to later events. And also, just to watch the characters and actors grow and evolve. :)

So first up is the pilot:

Just got back from seeing the Maze Runner.

Now I freely admit the main reason this movie came on my radar was Dylan O'Brien. I made a conscious decision not to read the book(s) before I saw the movie because I wanted to go into it knowing nothing. Or at least knowing only the things that I'd picked up by ye olde fannish osmosis. So my reactions are that of someone who is coming to the subject matter cold, or at least mostly so.

Reactions under the cutCollapse )

So the scene in 4.10 with Stiles and Malia getting locked in the hospital room was incredibly cute and I adored it. Ostensibly it was Melissa who locked them in, but the way they shot the door opening at the end of the scene:

(gif created by maliatale on tumblr)

is just really odd. You would think they would show Melissa opening it, or something like that, instead of it just swinging open apparently on its own.

And it may well just be nothing more than an odd editing choice. But what if it wasn't? What if it was shot that way for a reason?

My brain took that question and the fact that Stiles was supposed to see Claudia when he was in Eichen House last season, along with Jeff Davis saying Eichen House is haunted and came up with this.

Also can be read on AO3

*******

She almost didn't recognize him the first time.

She was still deep in the confusion that had clung to her like a cloak for so long,it seemed like she'd always been wrapped in it. And even if she hadn't been, he had grown so much... The boy she remembered was still a child, not the young man that crossed her path now.

Truthfully, she'd barely even registered his presence at first, just another lost soul like all the others in this lost place. Until he said his name.

There were many things she had forgotten, but one thing she never had was the name of her son. Hearing it, seeing him brought the first burst of clarity she'd had in a very long time. She saw him and she knew him and that gave her enough traction that she also remembered herself.

Title: What Happens When You Cut the Wrong Purse Fandom: Teen Wolf
Pairing: Scott McCall/Stiles Stilinski
Characters: Stiles Stilinski, Scott McCall, Derek Hale, Gerard Argent, Sheriff Stilinski, Chris Argent
Word Count: 23,225 words
Additional tags: alternate universe (fantasy), canonical death mentioned

Summary: "What happened anyway? Why were they trying to kill you? What did you do?"

"Nothing!" Stiles protested, then amended, "I don't know. They said something about me stealing some kind of official delivery, but..."

"Did you?" Scott asked with raised eyebrows.

Author's notes: This is my entry for the sciles rbb challenge. I'll add a link to the artwork (a really goregous piece done by Naomi (arenjager on tumblr)) when it is available. I had so much fun writing this and creating this universe. I have so many more ideas for this that the only reason this isn't 40k instead of 20k is I ran out of time. Which means there is a good chance this may have a sequel.

I just finished the third fic in this series and realized I'd never posted the first two here either.

Season 3b of Teen Wolf left me with all the Scott/Stiles feels. I knew even before the season was over that I wanted to write a story set post season exploring how Scott and Stiles could get together. This series, You Still Have Me, is that story. Three fics in it so far with more to come. :)

Rating for these stories is all G, but I expect it will eventually go higher. :)

Part 1:

Comfort Given Is Comfort Granted

Summary: Stiles stared at his phone for a long moment after the message finished, though he already knew what he was going to do. Despite Scott's attempt to hide it, Stiles clearly heard the tiny tremor in his voice that signalled he wasn't doing nearly as well as he was trying to seem. There was no way that Stiles could hear that and not be there for Scott. No matter how messed up he himself was still feeling.

Part 2:

I'll Be Your Sounding Board

Summary: So far though Stiles seemed to be dealing by concentrating on being there for Scott and Scott couldn't say he hadn't found his presence a balm. He may have been a little quieter, a little less frenetic, but he was still Stiles and Scott would always find his presence a comfort. And if Stiles helping him in turn helped Stiles, that was just a bonus Scott would take gratefully.

It didn't stop him wishing that Stiles would let him help in a more direct way though.

The memorial was the first chance Stiles gave him to do just that.

Part 3:

Pull Me Back From The Brink

Summary: He had figured the scenting would probably gradually stop over time, but so far it seemed like the exact opposite was happening. Whenever Scott would get agitated or upset, Stiles would find himself getting sniffed, whether it had anything to do with him or not. And it always seemed to calm Scott down. Stiles was starting to feel like a security blanket or....

Oh.

So I'm home from work two hours after I started. Why, you may ask?

I was baking today which meant I had to go in and out of the walk in freezer a lot. Now there's a wooden step that goes up to it, has been for several years now. Last week they cut the step in half so it's now only extends maybe a foot or two out from the freezer when it used to extend like four feet. I've only baked once since they cut it so I'm not used to its new length yet.

Some of you may see where this is going...

So my first trip out of the freezer, I take my usual big step, and instead of landing firmly on the step, I land on the exact edge of it and rolled my ankle pretty badly. Instinctively I shifted my weight to my other foot to try and keep from falling which by this time was ALSO on the edge of the step, rolled that ankle too and.... well let's just say gravity works. I went down like a sack of potatoes.

Scraped my knees a little but I twisted/sprained both ankles enough that I kinda resemble Lurch or Frankenstien's monster when I try to walk. I tried to stick out my shift but I could tell the ankle I rolled first (and worst) was starting to swell and I really needed to get off my feet so I gave my apologies and came home. Am now sitting in the lazy boy with ice packs on both ankles. Wee! Aren't Sundays fun? :p

The good news (aside from the fact that I didn't hurt myself worse) is I have the next two days off so hopefully I won't lose any time off of work (I got paid for the full day today as per workman's comp regulations so yay for that). But man I do not fool around when I fall, do I? :p

Dear spider,

I am not an arachnaphobe. When I saw you crawling on the overhead light's chains last night I did not kill you because hey you weren't bothering me so why should I bother you? Plus, you eat other bugs like the house centipedes that definitely do creep my out big time.

So how do you repay me?

By crawling all over my blankets and me and my laptop while I lie in bed with the lights off and FREAKING BITING ME.

Actually the order was crawling on my blankets, biting me then crawling on my computer which is when I saw you and realized what that little sharp pain on my leg had been.

At which point I yelled, flailed, turned on the light and blew you off the top of my laptop because I did not want to touch you and wanted you OFF OF MY COMPUTER NOW OKAY THANKS.

Which may have been a mistake because I quickly lost track of you on the carpet. I then went and got my cat and plopped her down at the approximate spot I last saw you (because hey, predator and another pair of eyes), but she is the worst hunter ever so I don't know if you made yourself scarce or she just couldn't find you.

I was about five minutes away from turning off my laptop and going to sleep. Now I am WIDE AWAKE with the LIGHTS ON because I need to be able to verify that there is NOTHING CRAWLING ON ME.

If you know what's good for you spider you will STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME because if I see you again I WILL SQUISH YOU FLAT.

No love,

Me

Seriously, I usually go out of my way not to kill spiders because I feel guilty when I do, but this one has crossed a line with the biting.

...and I bet I'm not even going to get any cool spider powers out of it.

Current Mood: awake WIDE AWAKE THANKS A LOT

What You Always Were
Rating: PG
Part 4 of The Sword of Damocles
Characters: Stiles Stilinski, Derek Hale, Sheriff Stilinski, Scott McCall, Isaac Lahey, Peter Hale, Alan Deaton, Cora Hale, Lydia Martin, Allison Argent
Pairing: Derek/Stiles (though still in the slow burn stage)
Word count: 24,102
Post Season 3A (not compliant with 3B)
Summary: "You think Stiles sees something in me that no one else does."

"I think Stiles put a name to something that everyone who knows you sees in you," Cora said.

Derek blinked. "What?"

"Oh please. You already all but said you felt like the name fit you. You're at your best when you're protecting people, Derek. Speaking as your little sister, I can safely say you always have been. Don't you think that's something that people were going to notice?"

Author Notes: So this fic is about two months later than I thought it would be, mostly due to season 3B making me compulsively write comfort fics. But here we are finally. I feel we've definitely moved into slow burn for the Derek/Stiles relationship, though it could probably still be read as gen if a person wanted to. Also, trigger warnings for attempted suicide (of an original character) and original child character in danger. Hope you enjoy. Now off to work more on a post 3B Scott/Stiles fic as well as the next part of SoD. :)

Using this icon even though neither of these characters were in the movie because I don't actually have a Steve Rogers icon...

Just got back from seeing Captain America 2...

My non-spoilery reaction: Holy Crap was that a great movie! I think it might be my new favourite of the solo hero movies (ie, all the movies except Avengers because Avengers is in a category all of its own). I think I had to have chair danced in glee at least ten times during the film. It was just that good.

I also think I legit want to see every movie we got trailers for, which NEVER happens. Granted considering three of the five are movies based on marvel comic characters (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Spider-Man 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy) maybe not so surprising. The other two trailers were Lucy, which action movie with a female lead played by Scarlet, yes please, sign me up, and Maleficent, which I had been on the fence about seeing but the trailer I think sold me.

Now going behind the cut for my spoilery reaction:Collapse )

Both of these were inspired by events in ep 3.23 Insatiable.

(and as an aside, I have to say I just completed two fics in four days. That... has never happened before. I don't know what the hell Teen Wolf has done to my writing output, but I have to say I like it.)

Making Amends
Rating: G
Word Count: 1842
Characters: Melissa McCall, Stiles Stilinski
Summary: "He lied, you know," Stiles said around his chattering teeth.

"Who lied?" she asked, rubbing his fingers to try and work some warmth back into them. If part of her was holding tighter to make up for her earlier reticence in touching him she didn't think it would do either of them any good to admit it out loud. Far better for them both she told herself to just concentrate on treating the symptoms of mild hypothermia that the oni's touch had left him with.

"The nogitsune. When it said... Scott could never hate you. That- That's not why I didn't tell him."

Author's Notes: A missing scene that deals with the fact that Stiles knows the big McCall family secret and that Melissa now knows he knows. Also to fix some of what the nogitsune damaged.

The second fic deals with the big spoiler of the ep so I'll put its details under a cutCollapse )
